Centro de Cancer de la Mujer
Ponce, Puerto Rico
We have been involved with the Centro de Cancer de la Mujer since 2013, when the oncological clinic founded by Dr. Anna di Marco Serra contracted our services for the rehabilitation of the residential building located at the corner of Salud and Aurora, in Ponce. At the time, the structure was in relatively good condition, mainly due to the fact that it had been used continuously since it was originally built in 1910 by local engineer Blas C. Silva Boucher.
The historical renovation project was conducted with a strict budget and a tight schedule, through limited, respectful interior interventions that would support the efficient and practical use of all the available space. The result proved that a lot can be achieved when owner, architect and contractor work with a clear, common goal in mind.
The building has been affected by the still active earthquake swarm that began on January 2020. We are currently working with preservation specialists and structural engineers to repair the damage and implement mitigation measures against the possibility of further complications. The most notable damage suffered is evidenced by minor cracks on the masonry wall. The structure is stable and in perfect condition to permit the daily operation of the clinic.
